Ticket to Ride: Rails & Sails takes the familiar gameplay of Ticket to Ride and expands it across the globe — which means that you’ll be moving across water, of course, and that’s where the sails come in.

An interesting take on expanding the scale of TTR, by creating two distinct sets of carriages: trains and boats, but the biggest shift this causes is the inevitable “I didn’t give myself enough of the right kinds at the start” and the cost mechanics to switch break the flow. In my experience, better played without the cost and instead switch boats/trains for free as long as your total number of pieces stays the same, as the artificial route limiting is otherwise punishing.

My favorite TTR at the moment, don't understand the hate. Admittedly having a house rule, more forgiving when someone has to change ships to trains and vice versa. Other rules are followed.

Really enjoyed this version of TTR, and I think it's probably my favorite now, though I've only played Eruope the once. I really like the addition of picking between boats or trains, and having to collect two different card types for either. Being able to replace the card market with EITHER type regardless of what you picked is interesting too, giving an option to try and hamper other players. The harbors are interesting as well, offering points if you manage to build them on your connected routes, but also a slight point loss for those left unbuilt. We played the Great Lakes map, which has most of the destinations in the lower left side of the map- in a 3 player game, one player ended up nearly completely blocked. Would like to try the other map to see if it's more balanced on destination spread! All in all, would be happy to play again!
