Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.

Italy was pretty fun, but I haven't played Japan yet. I really enjoyed the ferry addition on Italy; it added just enough without over-complicating the rules. This was the first expansion map I've gotten for TTR. I've played the USA map so much, it was hard to switch. It also was difficult to find all the new cities being that I know nothing about Italy LOL. Aside from that, I still prefer the layout of the original USA map better. Italy was a nice change, but I wouldn't say it's a must-buy. I just don't think TTR is played enough in our house to warrant getting a bunch of maps. So I traded my copy away.

Is Italy the best TTR map? No. Is Japan one of the most interesting TTR maps? Blisteringly quick yet still containing some level of strategic depth? Better than any of the city standalone games, with a truly novel variant to the base gameplay. Yes, all these things. And this map pack is worth it for just Japan alone.

Japan side - Not great with less players than 4. Italy side - Good fun, just wouldn't need this nap pack!
