Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.

Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

Not sure I like playing with this expansion better than just playing the base game. The special power tiles are interesting though.

The themeing of this expansion is neat but I think it really messed up the tightness of the board and made money almost too prevalent.

Comments updated after several plays. (These are recorded in the base game. We now play with all expansion in.) Would recommend for regular players. You should be quite familiar with the game before adding these extra bits. The balanced seems there but with more variables in the expansion there is more chance for imbalance. Wanting to really explore this expansion I chose the 'new' Papa Gregorio, (take a new companion each round) and he is a force to be reckoned with. I would put him right up there as one of the strongest of all the characters. I've recorded my highest score with him. I like the addition of the Companion module in general as it eases up some of the tightness in the game. Venice board is an easy addition and again an easier way to get bonuses. If you like the tight nature of original this expansion might not be for you. While I love the original game, I don't mind easing the stress for our play style by adding this board. My wife and I regularly played the base game and enjoy what this and the older mini expansion bring. We have now added Secret Paths and have had several plays with that mixed in. It is another step in easing up the pressure of the game. As long as the balance is there I'm ok with these variants. Just a final note; though the game stress is easier there is more to think about and more to set up! Again, recommended for regular players that have the time to not rush through a game.
