If you're looking for a beginner's worker placement game this is one well worth exploring. The choices each turn are different, but not complex enough to make it hard to learn. I quite like how you can plan your river strategically, and arrange it just right to score the maximum number of points. It is one of those games where multiple people can be shooting for the same scoring cards, so it can get a bit cutthroat as the players race to be the first ones there. Luckily there are other cards that will come up so people won't completely waste all the goods they collected. It's nothing remarkable or ground-breaking, but this is still a solid game particularly for light family gaming.

If you have ever wondered what Resource Management: The Family Game might look like, well here it is, re-titled as The River. It's mild mannered, straightforward and not very challenging. As someone who is tired of worker placement and has never loved resource management, I found The River weirdly palatable. As ever with Days of Wonder, production quality is very good. The muted, naturalistic artwork is a welcome departure from from the poster paints of recent releases and the wild turkey pieces are very cute.

Great entry-level worker-placement/action selection game... or one for when you don't want to think too hard. This one keeps finding its way back to our table.
