Captain Quirk
Perfect example of a game that looks great, with nice components and artwork, but the gameplay is trash. Did the gameplay designers even watch the show? Because if they did, they'd know that the main point of the series is to avoid war and conflict. And what do they make with the series name stamped on it? A beat-the-other-player-up game. This is Dragon Prince, not Dragon Ball Z. All those maps and the possibility of a story somehow following the series and they end up being interchangeable punching locations. Wow. Just wow.

This game seems to want to exist at two different complexity levels. I'm very interested in the exploration of which characters work well on a team, but the way you smashup the character decks makes them less consistent. Pair that with only 2-3 blocks per deck and you get a game that devolves into a quick flurry of action followed by undefended mop up. I'm really hoping that there will be more expansions to flesh out the primal magic factions and deck customization hinted at. As is, this is going to mostly appeal to teens who are fans of the show.

The Dragon Prince: Battlecharged is an exciting miniatures arena game based on the awesome animated series! In the game, you’ll pick a team of characters from the show to go against your opponents’ team, moving, attacking, charging up energy, and playing cards to execute special maneuvers unique to your character. It is just that simple! What makes this game great is how each character is unique in how they play and if you’re a fan of the show, the theme and the mechanisms really gel together. You have Ezran, consolidating his allies throughout the game and being super powerful when he finds his dragon friends or Rayla, running all over the map, rushing in the attack your opponents With lots of opportunities for team work, as well as great powers that cards have, you’ll soon be able to crush the competition! We would definitely recommend this game to any fan of the show but even if you’re not and are interested in arena battle games, this one’s worth checking out!
