Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration.Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.

From one play: I (really) like the cell shaded style art and this third interation has a tower defence vibe to it.

As much fun as the other two Captain is Dead games can be, this one while maintaining that fresh take on a similar concept just hasn't captured the lightning in a bottle fun that the prior two games did for our group and even for myself. I appreciate that we can lay out the planet to our own desires, but with a slightly different focus and a greater orientation on combat, it feels more like a knock-off of the "Forbidden" series (Island/Desert/Sky) with a Captain is Dead theme.

Set up took a bit longer than I wanted to but once we were playing and the entire mechanics clicked the set up seemed very easy as everything is labeled where it goes. Very fun and can easily turn into an argument every turn depending on who you play with. Will play again.
