In Teotihuacan: City of Gods, each player commands a force of worker dice, which grow in strength with every move. On your turn, you move a worker around a modular board, always choosing one of two areas of the location tile you land on: one offering you an action (and a worker upgrade), the other providing you with a powerful bonus (but without an upgrade).

Thoughts after a single play: Teotihuacan takes me back to my early days with complex Euros - back to a time before video reviews, when you had to pull the trigger on a game to figure out whether it would work on your table or not. Teotihuacan went further, leaving me with uncertainty how any of it would feel until I was in the midst of my first session (these days a read through the rules is enough to get a feel for how things would play out). Anyhoo, I went into things with some mild trepidation (mostly related to my partner's likely opinion, given the abstract nature and "points only" allure of things), but we both had a grand ol' time. Excited to play again. For what it's worth, I'm one old schooler who finds this superior to Tzolk'in (own both now).

Filled with theme and fantastic components though some bespoke dice would have capped it off. Kudos for the configurable board. And the smoothest bot I’ve ever operated that makes you feel there’s indeed another player’s turn going on in its execution. (But boy, is this bot built on a heavy foundation of cheats!) I agree with calls for an expansion making the game playable co-op: that would indeed add purpose. Still, all said, Teotihuacan is an easy to learn, polished game heavy on decision making and beautifully rendered.
