Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Pattern Building is a system where players place game components in specific patterns in order to gain specific or variable game results. For example: placing chips on 2, 4, 6, 8 on a board gets the player an action card they can use later in the game.
Pattern Building
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.

Really interesting blend of mechanisms. The location you are on the board, the color of your keepers determine extra actions, the god cards determine your spot, costs are calculated based on your positioning and infrastructure on the board. All of this is interwoven to pull off awesome combos. You also get extra actions being near people. The high priest action has a lot of interactivity since other players get to follow. To do well you need to be aware of where they are and what they are building so you don’t miss those crucial follow actions. Our games were tight in scoring with different paths. It seemed very well balanced. Some complaints about the game and counter points: No control over game length. Not entirely true. You can recruit from the village and once the village is empty of meeples it causes a scoring you could trigger the end game as fast as you have resources doing just that. If others join you, which they will, it happens much faster. It is true if you ignore that the game will last longer but it’s definitely not true that you don’t have control over it. Too much luck. Not going to completely agree but there is some luck. The tapestry you get to draw 3 and there are powers to draw 5. God cards have an open display so you can pick from what’s available to counter randomness, even your own cards just discarded. Army cards only vary by one person and most places allow you to draw 2 and there are tons of spaces and ways to pick these up without a problem. The meeples are never drawn directly from the bag but rather the nomads area so it is always fully visible what you can go for. Strategic. You can definitely plan longer term strategy. In fact the tapestries and buildings allow you to do just that. You have to be tactical with your workers to maximize your actions but there is nothing prevent you from executing a strategy it just won’t be as powerful all the time with some bad luck. But as mentioned you can often counter most bad luck. Overall this game had me nervous going in but it was completely unfounded. It’s very clever and I look forward to replaying many different paths. I can’t stop thinking about trying this or that or what if I did this first then switched to that. Not many games leave you thinking of the puzzle. Not many heavy euros have follow up actions to be aware of everyone else. The game scales well as a lot of the actions and strategies have bigger payoffs towards the end and this was true at 2 players as it is as higher counts.

What a mess of a game. It's so convoluted to get anything done it's frustrating. Dryer than 1000 soda biscuits in your mouth after hair drying it for an hour.

placement activation is great (feel like what Architects of West Kingdom dream to be) but i don't like how the round end, too much salad-y from everywhere and statue is a must to generate income
