This mechanic requires you to place a bid, usually monetary, on items in an auction of goods in order to enhance your position in the game. These goods allow players future actions or improve a position. The auction consists of taking turns placing bids on a given item until one winner is established, allowing the winner to take control of the item being bid on. Usually there is a game rule that helps drop the price of the items being bid on if no players are interested in the item at its current price.
Auction/Bidding

This game strongly recall my pain memory while playing [gameid=93]. Consume large amount of brain power and morale while playing.

I hate blind bidding, screw-you mechanics, playing kingmaker, turtling, leader bashing, unfair turn order advantages, and having an opponent assign special abilities for me! Sometimes I like player chaos, but I did not like it here. Definitely not my kind of game.

What I liked: No dice, no cards...interesting in that way. It's all about token placement and strategy... What I didn't like: I'm not big on games that encourage "gang up" mechanics which this definitely does, if you're in the best shape everyone will try fuck you over, and if it's 3 on 1 it can be fairly crippling. That's a fine mechanic, just not my first choice in the games I prefer to play. Also it seems there are definitely scenarios where you can mess up you first term so badly that it's unrecoverable, and you basically limp along crippled for the rest of the game. That wasn't me but I can't imagine it was much fun for that player.
