Tammany Hall
90m - 90m
2 - 5 Players
Ages 12+
This mechanic requires you to place a bid, usually monetary, on items in an auction of goods in order to enhance your position in the game. These goods allow players future actions or improve a position. The auction consists of taking turns placing bids on a given item until one winner is established, allowing the winner to take control of the item being bid on. Usually there is a game rule that helps drop the price of the items being bid on if no players are interested in the item at its current price.
Auction/Bidding
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.

With a name like Tammany Hall, I shouldn't have been surprised by how confrontational it is. But I was. And not in a good way.:-) Four of us played. At the start of the game, everyone was striving to be Mayor (5 points!). By halfway through the game, everybody was bitching about how much it sucked to be mayor. I said I'd be an unlikely candidate for future plays.(Actually, my choice of words might have been a bit more R-rated :-) But, I'll probably try it one more time, with the right cast of characters....now that I (sort of) understand it. Reminded me about why I don't play war games.
Big Bad Lex
First Play: I had owned this for over 2 years before I got to play. The rules seem abstract and at first it was hard to see how it all hung together. There is a penny drop moment when suddenly it all joins up and makes sense. A very clever and quick game once you start, certainly faster than the 90 mins advised on the box. The interaction and attacks make for a very clever game although you will be ham strung if you get picked on. A game where you need to jockey for position and not appear too strong. Playing optimally each round is not the best tactic against experienced players.

Kickstarter edition. Beautiful production. Really liked this game. Managed to a earn game long enemy after she "revised" a deal we has made earlier and then I flat out betrayed her on another as punishment. Good stuff!
