First play was with two - and it was very fun. Played in about 90 minutes. I recall playing this in the 80's and loving it then - although it played itself out after awhile. I think that might happen again, but for now, I'm looking forward to our next play. It's great fun. Second play was with three - and played in about 2 hours. Still very fun - and quite the variety of things happen. It's very much an adventure and nice for a change of pace. Third play was with four and at times, five (one fellow left). The game didn't know when to get off the table and there was no way to speed that along. Getting thrown in jail is truly annoying and then later, completely easy to get out - the one place that is repetitive in the tome. This one is probably just a holiday game now - bring it out once or twice a year at most. And then it has left my collection. Regrets? Not really. More of a fondness now than actually wanting to play again. It is at times amazingly fun. Then it is amazingly not.

Fun. The goal of the game is to have a good story - winning or losing is incidental. I like how it plays and how it forces other players to pay attention when it's not their turn (by making them handle the interaction tables and book). Loses some points for the randomness inherent in the gameplay mechanics, but gains points for theme. Will gladly play again. AVOID THE LAKE OF COLORS!

I love the choose your own adventure style of this game which is good because the skills and conditions could really use some streamlining, and it takes forever to play.
