Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

BGA The Igloos" and "The Wild Animals"), and a "Winter Is Hard! are fine, no need for "as" many buildings, wild animals are alright and the winter element felt like an obstacle. www.youtube.com/amassgames

+ Beautiful artwork. Nice theme. Good components. Easy to learn. Fun to gather resources and collect card combos. Wild animals mini expansion is a fun and interesting mechanism that introduces cooperation. - There is a a lot of head counting that can be brain burning if you are tired. The game can be too long (for a shorter game use only the half stacks of cards and buildings). Igloos mini expansion feels unnecessary. The dual board brings a nice visual variability but do not really add any new meaningful mechanism.
Big B
I thought this might feel a little too basic for me, but ends up closer to being a clean and straightforward classic worker placement game. The dice might be too random for more serious strategy gamers, but I think it adds excitement to the proceedings. Not sure this will have the strongest legs but I think this has earned a spot as a nice game to fall back to once in awhile. I like the aesthetics of the anniversary edition too, more readable than I thought it was going to be.
