Spartacus: A Game of Blood and Treachery
120m - 180m
2 - 4 Players
Ages 17+
This mechanic requires you to place a bid, usually monetary, on items in an auction of goods in order to enhance your position in the game. These goods allow players future actions or improve a position. The auction consists of taking turns placing bids on a given item until one winner is established, allowing the winner to take control of the item being bid on. Usually there is a game rule that helps drop the price of the items being bid on if no players are interested in the item at its current price.
Auction/Bidding
Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
In games with a trading mechanic, the players can exchange game items between each other.

There is really nothing about this game I dislike. The Intrigue, the back stabbing, front stabbing, Schemes and Foils, the simple Auction mechanics, the arena wagers, and the dice chains used in combat, all of which feel intuitive and are easy to teach. This is a HIGHLY confrontational game, in more phases than just the arena combat, and it so perfectly captures the scandalous, barbaric nature of the show that is is probably Gale Force Nine's best TV adaptation to the tabletop. Just awesome. Check your friendships at the door.

Spartacus is a heavy dice rolling game. Nearly everything is decided with dice, whereas at the same time there is a heavy meta game involved with bribing and blackmailing other players. Spartcaus has 3 different gameoptions where you can decide to play a fast, medium or long game, which is nice. The bidding mechanism in Spartacus is good.

Silly game with non original mechanics, but lots of fun. Let the luck invade your table and be happy.
