Spartacus: A Game of Blood and Treachery

This mechanic requires you to place a bid, usually monetary, on items in an auction of goods in order to enhance your position in the game. These goods allow players future actions or improve a position. The auction consists of taking turns placing bids on a given item until one winner is established, allowing the winner to take control of the item being bid on. Usually there is a game rule that helps drop the price of the items being bid on if no players are interested in the item at its current price.
Auction/Bidding
Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
In games with a trading mechanic, the players can exchange game items between each other.

Well, what I have to say about this game is that it is very good, there is a very good design here, the arena battles are very interesting and there are some interesting strategies to win a battle in the arena and others to win the influence. There is a bash the leader, but not as agressive as Munchkin or other games that has the bash the leader thing.

I actually loved this game. I can see why people hate hate hate it. But it's best to be taken as a lite and silly game. The dice gladiator battles are so fun as well as the betting. I think this game is very silly but so fun to play.

Going to need to see a game with 4 players before I make a real judgement... but seems like it's a pretty solid "reel in the leader" with a fun arena mechanic at the end of every turn. Lots of bidding and card draws, and pretty decent uneven powers. The Intrigue phase feels very lacking (draw your hand, dump it on the leader, and then sell off everything else), and the arena phase needs a pretty heavy modification to make the game playable. This game started out as something I couldn't play enough of, but I burnt out on it in a major way.
