Machi Koro in space with a larger tableau and 2D6 to enable that. I like how the route to victory is not always to buy the most expensive ship you can afford. It is important to earn cash from other players' die rolls, so you need to develop your 1-6 ships to make that happen. Later on, dice adjusting abilities make it possible to focus more on your higher range, which tend to provide permanent income, large chunks of cash and vps. Space Base is a classic build your engine then switch to victory points sort of game. The big deck of space ships gives the impression of a great deal of variety, though in practice there seem to be a lot of similar cards. It all works fine, the need to pay attention to what others are rolling keeps you alert and there is little down time, even with four players. I wouldn't refuse another game of Space Base. Production quality is decent. The artwork is forgettable though functional.

This combines elements of two of my families favorite games - Splendor and Qwixx. I love the variety of ships and abilities and there is a surprising level of variation in how to win. I really like that everyone is engaged even when it is not your turn. The dice add an element of randomness, so it won’t be for everyone. For me, though, that just makes the game more accessible for a wider range of player abilities. That’s great for me since I often game with my kids.
