Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.
Modular Board
Pattern Building is a system where players place game components in specific patterns in order to gain specific or variable game results. For example: placing chips on 2, 4, 6, 8 on a board gets the player an action card they can use later in the game.
Pattern Building
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.

Wow this game is amazing! Before I had it in my collection I thought this game was about area control, a mechanism I really don't like, but turns out it was not this game I had in mind! ? S&S is about collecting stones (cubes) by playing one or two cards from your open hand of 4. These cards let you fly to different tiles or turn, shift or replace tiles and cubes in the Alchemy zone. Each cube that you pick up lets you walk around the Elemental Zone, trying to come close to collect the other 4 elements. You already start with your own element for free, so you only need the other 4 to end the game. You can then use the cubes to buy artifacts. It sounds super easy, but gameplay is challenging ? just the right amount of challenging to make your brain hurt, but not too much. I really recommend this game, it's puzzly, fun and with 4 players we played in about 60 minutes ?

A really fun and different game. It's a bit strategic but more about being able to see different combination of patterns as you need to make a call on your turn to switch, rotate or move color blocks (called spirit stones here). We had fun playing it with 4 players
