"After a couple of turns, the depth of strategic choices (and implications) that Sebastien Dujardin has weaved together starts to take hold - and it becomes clear this is a really great game that most gamers old and new would enjoy. Looks great on the table, is easy to explain and plays quickly too. But we are here for the solo mode... and it plays almost identically to the multiplayer. 2-3 rules for the AI character and a dead easy die-roll logic selection of what they do each turn, means you can whizz through a game inside 30 mins as a soloist. Best of all, I really love how there are summer and winter modes (standard and variable powers/upgrades) that work really nicely in solo too. Classy stuff." Watched Rahdo play this. I don't love the "compare your solo score to a chart" solo rules, but there is non-official solo variant in the forum that would be more like playing against a bot. 1-4 P, 30-45 min, 2.16.

All cards have a double functionality (instant and delayed) and they have a hole in the middle for their interaction with the board. The board moves when certain cards are played and it cycles between day and night. Very elegant design overall. Our first game was a little long as we were subject to analysis paralysis but still fun and we will probably get better at it.

Solenia is a resource conversion Euro where each player gets a set of action cards to reap an immediate benefit and a delayed benefit with the world transitions. A game by the Designers of Troyes with Artist Vincent Dutrait. Players collect resources and fulfill contracts. Spatial movement on modular board. Cards have a round hole in the middle when placed they still show the underneath resource on the board. The game has a day / night cycle which requires planning for the future. What makes it special? * Integration of cards and the board: each card has a hole in the middle that when played on the board, shows the awarded resource. + Nice, clean artwork + Quick playing time Related games: * Black Angel: more complicated, share some mechanisms
