Skytear Horde (Kickstarter – Gameplay All-In Pledge)
1 - 3 Players
Ages 10+
The Campaign/Battle Card Driven mechanic is a relatively recent development in war games that focuses the players' actions on cards they have in their hand. The very basic idea is that performing a single action uses a single card. Games where cards are used to determine the outcome of battles do not use this mechanic.

It's fine, but feels incomplete. If you just play at a surface level with the mono-color preconstructed decks it's not a bad alternative to sentinels of the multiverse (not as deep, but also not as fiddly). It starts to fall off when you go deeper into the game as there's several issues from cheap production (ex: avoid the "deluxe" version unless the playmat alone is worth the price), to a poorly written rulebook (ex: didn't even write down what the factions were called, wasn't on the cards either), to odd design choices (ex: some deckbuilding restrictions don't actually do anything, and the horde deck may not be balanced properly without kickstarter exclusives). I'm purely looking at this as a solo player, but I read the other rules. Coop is probably fine if a bit odd, 2 player vs (1v1) actually looks interesting, but 3 player vs (2v1) looks oddly unbalanced. I'd give it a 4-5 for gameplay, but the changes they made from the kickstarter, the corners that were clearly cut, and the poor communication don't sit well with me.

Quick set up/play and tear down, all within 30 min. Lots of meaty choices and tactical decision. Either play with a prebuilt deck, or sink your teeth into some deckbuilding. Can't wait for more content to add even more options to plau
