Darkdruid
Combat heavy skirmish miniatures game with a post apocalyptic theme. Think Mad Max...with horses....and bears....and wolves...and no vehicles! Combat relies on dice and cardplay. Gathering resources, movement and recruitment is all by cards. Not really an area control game as an area domination?! A hold on any territory makes you subject to attack! Comes with a solo mode and a competitive mode.

We wasted so much time just getting to choose one of 3 actions and it still sometimes made no sense to try cause we couldn't mitigate all the dice rolls...

This game was fun. The actions are dead simple, the combat isn't too punishing to the loser, only inflicting usually 1 or 2 casualties. It isn't hard to recruit or move around the map, so even in the face of battle losses, none of the battles felt bad. Unlike a game like Kemet, where study of the power tiles is required, this is card driven and only offers 6 items and 3 mercenaries at time, so things are presented in digestible chunks. While repeated plays of Kemet may lead to understanding of the tile combos and intricacies and may lead to a more thoughtful and strategic game over dozens of plays, this is easy to pull of fthe shelf once in a while with only a quick refresher and is friendlier to newer players. THe dice, while sometimes providing a welcome or unwelcome swing in the results, didnt feel terribly impactful, so the RNG was largely contained to a reasonable level.
