Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

The logic puzzle is incredibly minor in the game, because it gives you a little too much information. so it becomes easy to work out which creature has which symbol and therefore, which ones you need. The boss creatures, give you the ability to see which creatures match a symbol, but by the time I fight them, I always find I've worked that out already. I think the game needs to lean more heavily into the logic puzzle - make it harder, and so you need to make more guesses. As it is, you get about three guesses (playing on hard) and that seems to be enough, because you get so much information out of each guess. I've heard the kickstarter edition adds modules which make the game more interesting. Clearly they should have been in the retail edition, because the game sorely needs it.

A decent deduction game framed in a whack-a-mole coop a la Pandemic. It's an exceedingly simple trip with a couple moments of excitement, but it ultimately only finds any ground due to the tension in the high level of difficulty. You definitely want to play this with fewer players. Four is too many as the decision space and discussion simply is not strong nor deep enough to support that many. It also feels like it could get repetitive pretty quickly. The high difficulty is the one asset the game has in this regard. It does appear as though the Kickstarter exclusive content would help add longevity to the game (there's quite a bit of stuff missing from the retail release), but that does those of us who don't have it no good. The moving around, combat, and hand management aren't particularly gripping and it's an experience that's fine, relatable, and altogether something I'm not likely to remember a day after the play. Feels like a very standard, non essential release in the current industry climate. --------------------------------------------------- Full review: https://playerelimination.com/2018/05/14/i-am-not-groot-a-rising-5-review/

Very light but fun puzzley game. The solo game or two players is where it plays best. Don't bother with the picture taking just do it manually. It is much quicker. This is definitely my go to solo game right now.
