Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.
Variable Player Powers
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

First impression: too many things going on with lots of dependencies. A bit too long too. Looks very beautiful, but it's hard to follow everything on the map.

Great worker placement/dice rolling game. The manual is vague, but YouTube videos of playthroughs fill in the blanks. For 5 players expect a 3 hour game time and half hour set up. Good diversity with multiple strategies for winning, solo rules, and the Kickstarter Deluxe edition has optional card decks and included expansion.

There's definitely potential here. I like that the game presents you with a range of options for progressing and scoring. Constantly, I found myself debating whether one path would be more profitable than the other. But then I began to see that certain paths are demonstrably better than others, and that does sap away a bit of the fun. The Stone Council is the biggest offender. It's rewards are meager in comparison to placing settlements, and you must lose two potentially crucial reputation points to pull off the Stone Council transaction. If the VP rewards were doubled there, it might be more of a draw. Right now, it's more of a place you go when you've nowhere else to go. If a future expansion can figure out how to make the Stone Council more attractive a destination, it would go a distance to making this game shine.
