Ride the Rails
45m - 60m
2 - 5 Players
Ages 12+
This mechanic usually requires players to pick up an item or good at one location on the playing board and bring it to another location on the playing board. Initial placement of the item can be either predetermined or random. The delivery of the good usually gives the player money to do more actions with. In most cases, there is a game rule or another mechanic that determines where the item needs to go.

Unlike most rail-building games, where the goal is mostly to build up your network, this one is mostly about tearing your opponents down. It's incredibly sharp(in the chess sense of the word), and it feels extremely vicious. I usually play rail games to build something, so it really didn't hit the spot for me at all. There's way too much incentive not to build anything, lest your opponents gain benefits from it. The optimal play style seems to be herding, where everyone builds the same lines and scores most of the same points as each other. But if you like your games sharp and backbite-y, based on eking out tiny advantages, then it's competently designed, and should be a decent choice for you. Me, though? I'll pass.

Aesthetically pleasing, light but appears to have some depth. The one negative is that it heavily depends on careful income calculations to determine best choice of actions. Still it was fun to play.

Still quite a typical Winsome cube rails game with shared incentives and considerable fragility (in that inattentive players can easily throw the game one way or another), but also a bit atypical in that there are no auctions, no share dilution and fairly little extortion. Much more approachable as a result, and if you don't regularly play with the same crew, that's likely a big advantage.
