This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

This is all the parts I liked about Gates of Loyang, without the weird and random card play. I like a lot of it, but after my first game I feel like I've seen most of what it has to offer. Also, the scoring system can lead to some lackluster last turns.

I love the simplicity of this one. That along with the theme make it a very pleasant game to sit down with for 45 mins. I love the playtime and the theme. Obviously, there isn't a ton here besides the basic worker placement action space but it is done in such a cute and simple way it makes the game not overly cumbersome for what you get. The extra cards in the game that change from game to game haven't seemed to impact the game as much as I would like them too. However, I think this opinion might change as I play more times. I think the solo mode is perfect for relaxing with a pleasant theme for the time. That said, especially in the solo game, this game is not hard to solve. I think if you're the first player you can almost guarantee a win. Obviously, the extra cards drawn out can change things up a bit but for the most part, this is a game I will likely hold on to because of how pleasant it is. It might make a good intro game too.

It is a slow crawl - but who expected farming to be filled with fast moves. It really is about planning everything out well ahead of time as all of the possible moves are known on the board (except the 4 which get bought/shared). It feels really like an optimization puzzle - and a slow moving one at that. I'd rather play Gates of Loyang; I don't like Gates of Loyang...
