Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.

It's a CCG without the first C. I like the gameplay. I like the combo elements. I do feel like which cards are in your deck may be more important than the play of those cards, but I could be wrong. Not too long. May be prone to a runaway leader, but the game is short enough that I don't mind and I think that criticism is more a function of inexperience with the game than commentary on the game itself. What I really love about this is the engine building. You're heavily incentivized to find an engine (in the draft), construct it (find & play the cards), then abuse it (score VPs). That's the core of the game - everything else (and I mean EVERYTHING) is ancillary to that overarching goal. There are enough elements that the possible engines are varied and you have some choices to make on the way. I also like how a few, select abilities mess with the rule set in narrow ways (such as the Check Victory Now one - which was how I won a game despite an opponent being set up to score a lot more points than I could). I think (expect) that expansions will round this out quite well, as well as expand the pool of options, and I look forward to them! I think the rating could go up with an expansion or two.

An excellent engine builder, really good at all numbers. The usual engine builder choices are here (linear accumulation against a combo that pays off if the game gets that far, etc), but there's also the great enjoyment of knowing your hand and deck, yet not the order everything comes out, and building a possibly janky engine as quickly as you can in a race against time. Kudos to Tom Lehmann (again).
