Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

I love the "put one pull one" mechanism, but the actions these allow you to do are... boring. Also, you spend most of the game gearing up for the "exciting" turns, which probably take about 10% of game time. Certain situations also come up where you have no good options to no fault of your own, which reeks of lack of playtesting/development.

Solo automa is exclusive and not available anymore. I refuse to use apps so I will never be playing this game series.

When fully expanded, this is more enjoyable than Scythia. There's so much crunchy goodness that Scythia had to sacrifice in order to become streamlined. In particular, I feel that much was lost by combining quests and offerings. In RotNS, quests are another way of gaining loot by discarding cards and cannot be claimed by the solo AI, thus balancing out its ability to claim offerings without spending loot. In Scythia, the AI claims quests for free with no counterbalance and thus feels unfair. I also prefer the Mico's art to that of Sam Phillips... although, to be fair, Scythia's board layout is easier to parse. Solo is not scaled down, so the game can drag on a bit, but someone here on BGG did come up with a variant to trim down the number of raid spaces.
