This mechanic requires you to place a bid, usually monetary, on items in an auction of goods in order to enhance your position in the game. These goods allow players future actions or improve a position. The auction consists of taking turns placing bids on a given item until one winner is established, allowing the winner to take control of the item being bid on. Usually there is a game rule that helps drop the price of the items being bid on if no players are interested in the item at its current price.
Auction/Bidding
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.

"happy to play this every now and then but I play it often enough not to request it. Some games go well but sometimes the luck of the draw really sours it for me, fun with the right crowd who keep the game moving and have fun calling Ra! Get Pharoahs, they always win in my experience."

9 plays / 3,4,5 players LIKE: Great auction mechanism for utilizing set numbers to bid with, and to swap out with another bidding tile. Fun to press-your-luck, hoping for better tiles to try to auction for, or to pressure others into bidding for something they somewhat-but-not-really want. DISLIKE: A difficult game to grasp the first time through. Scoring can be fiddly, and there is some negative scoring which could upset someone slightly. Dry theme. The graphics could use an update (Uberplay version). OVERALL: An impressive game and doesn't take very long to play. I really like it! My tip to beginner players is to call 'ra' when there's something in the row that other people want, but you don't really want. NOTE: Also played the new version. The board and left/right organization was very helpful in teaching and new people enjoyed it.

Simple to teach, fast to play, and you are constantly trying to evaluate a lot's value to you AND your opponents. The 25th century games edition with Ian O'Toole's art is beautiful.
