Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.

Been playing trick takers all my life - learned with Whist in Maine (USA). I love the scoring twist with this one, and the ability to collect sets, and stick your opponents with negative-scoring sets. Plus, the art is outstanding.

An okay trick taking game. WHY DID THEY MAKE THE SUITS FACES?!?!?? Worst. UI. Ever. (Exaggerating, but not by much. The faces should have been symbols with colors.) The gameplay is okay. I felt like I didn't have much control over my plays and there were few escapes. I like the changing trump suit and kitty, but the odd valuation on the sets (which is what drives everything) kind of ruins the experience. That 4th card is so punishing that it's painful. There are far better trick taking games to play.

Not so great. It's quite chaotic experience with big score swings. Gaming world is full off tricktaking games so the newcomers has to be good (or even great) - Pot de Vin isn't.
