Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.

Lagombi

4 games in a row. Lost all 4. Won Pipeline 800 to 200 score. Can't figure this out, quite a different strategy than Pipeline!

An interesting take on trick-taking, where you play out hands as usual, but then use the bottom end of the cards won to collect and score guild symbols. I found it somewhat confusing for a while (mainly because you're trying to unlearn a bit of the knowledge gained over years of playing other trick-taking games), but it gets clearer after a few games. The scoring is actually very Coloretto-esque, and also like Fox in the Forest. The gems to "pass" a hand are a nice touch and also make things interesting (although a lot of players seemed to be holding on to them and just missing the last four hands due to this, which seemed weird). The artwork stands out as original and fresh.
