Peloponnes Card Game
45m - 45m
2 - 5 Players
Ages 10+
This mechanic requires you to place a bid, usually monetary, on items in an auction of goods in order to enhance your position in the game. These goods allow players future actions or improve a position. The auction consists of taking turns placing bids on a given item until one winner is established, allowing the winner to take control of the item being bid on. Usually there is a game rule that helps drop the price of the items being bid on if no players are interested in the item at its current price.
Auction/Bidding
Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.

Peloponnes packs quite a punch for its small size. This game isn't for the faint of heart, as all five disasters occurring is a possibility (this happened in my second game...the struggle is real!). The bidding mechanics frame the core of your decisions, and the civ theme comes through nicely with buildings, population, supply, etc. The "lower of your two points" scoring engine makes players strive for balance and growth in their empire. The relatively simple rules and quick playing time make Peloponnes a wonderful choice for groups of 3-5 when you're looking for something between a filler and the main course. + Patronus Expansion

Not as good as the main game, but everything is there for a simpler card version. Plays pretty well overall.

A brutal card game that randomly punished you based on the card flop. You could defend against a particular catastrophe and it never come up, but another just hits you hard and fast and takes away your tableau. Playing with 5 was very slow and dragged the game on with lots of rules questions as for most of us it was our first play as the game did not seem very intuitive. Maybe another play would reveal some strategy but I felt like I did the easiest choice each round with little thought and still managed to win. I would consider trying it again with less players to see if it’s better but I’m not eager to play again as this game should play quick and it certainly does not.
