Very similar to vanilla Pandemic, with a few Cthulhu-ish twists. The flaws in the game are too similar to base Pandemic for my tastes, though (complete reliance on shuffle, little or no ways to influence that).

While I enjoy Pandemic and am a big fan of Lovecraft and the Cthulhu mythos, this combination just doesn't do it for me. Really easy to get into and play, just like the standard version of Pandemic and the random Great Old Ones means that things can play out a little differently each time which is neat. The board tries to evoke doom and gloom in the artwork but the board is far too dark to see anything well enough for that feeling to really come through. An interesting experiment but it's just not for me.

The Pandemic gameplay and Cthulhu theme are well suited to each other. There are a few differences between this game and Pandemic such as Shoggoths moving towards the gates, Old Ones awakening and having adverse effects across the board, relic cards for players to use, Sanity die and tolkens, etc. to warrant purchasing this game. The miniatures, board and artwork are well done. [Solo play]
