The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.
Variable Player Powers
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

Great for solo with Underwater expansion or pnp solo cards. For me one of the best solo games out there.

We allowed this to sit on a shelf for 8 months after trading for it in a math trade and I regret it! We played this game in a 2 player session and I can report it has no tacked on mechanics to make it work with 2 players (which I dislike) It was designed to scale well and it does. This game has onion layers of play that at first might seem to lack depth initially but as you start gathering equipment and activating rooms a path to victory soon reveals itself. We figured out pretty quickly that ignoring the events, can very quickly spiral which we learned in our first game to the point we actually had to cooperate for a round to try and deal with clearing some of them as neither of us could withstand the consequences for another round. I am a big fan of asymmetrical player powers and this game has it in your initial hero starting abilities, your rooms and your equipment. Which really made the game play unique for both of us. I also loved the variable power levels of your hero's which made decisions deeper and more challenging - do I go for a huge hunt or monopolize all the micro chips - can I get bullets and make both of those things happen? Super enjoyable! 8.5 after our first play and I feel like if anything that score would go up with future plays for both of us.
