Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management

Like it! It reminds me of Ascension somehow. I felt it could by played with more strategy and fewer luck and which is great. Will like it better after more plays.

Omen is one of those two sides contesting several areas simultaneously games that I swore I wouldn't buy another of. What made me break that resolution? The varied deck was one thing (made even more varied for me by the addition of the Fires in the East and Edge of the Aegean expansions). Each card has a cost to play it to one of those contested areas, a strength in that contest, a value if discarded as an offering, and an ability that may trigger when it is placed or discarded, when certain conditions are met or at a fixed point in a player turn. Each hand of cards is an optimisation puzzle before you even take account of the state of the three contests or three other ways to score. Which brings me to; Omen isn't simply a contest for those areas and the reward tiles they provide. Equally valuable are those feats and the Keres cards in the deck, that require a variety of different conditions to be met. A few of the cards are Treasured and you score points just for keeping them in your hand. The priority for this turn might not simply be to assemble a larger force than your opponent in one of three areas. How refreshing. The game state is very dynamic. You will want to keep a full (five card) hand and the coins to pay for them in readiness to respond when your opponent pulls the rug out from under you - as they frequently will. That's much easier said than done. I own the Kolossal edition of Omen. The artwork is pleasing and evocative. Card quality is just OK. The chits are nice and chunky. The rules are an easy read and seem complete.

This one has incredible artwork and solid mechanics. A very unique game of area control and direct conflict. It runs fast and it is easy to play and offers a large variety of options.
