Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Tile Placement games feature placing a piece to score VPs, with the amount often based on adjacent pieces or pieces in the same group/cluster, and keying off non-spatial properties like color, "feature completion", cluster size etc.

Quick playing and very straight forward. Doesn't do much different and would be better if it played 5 or 6

Positive reaction from first few plays. Fun, charming, and really interesting use of dice and spatial considerations. Has a surprising amount to consider for how seemingly light/breezy it is. Neither frequently requested nor problem-ridden, and it had some value, so off it went in a trade. We enjoyed Shadow Kingdoms, a dice placement game from the same designer significantly more, so this just didn't get played after that KS delivered.

Positives: Light but still with meaningful decisions. I really enjoyed the way the tiles score by what you put next to it like Quadropolis but without the 4x4 grid restraints. I also really enjoyed that you had an entire other action to activate abilities on the tiles to score points. It appears like there are at least two major strategies to victory in this one. Also - variable player powers are always nice. Negatives: Its a bit lighter than my favorite games. The art is super standard and really this could have been any theme on Earth. Overall: An enjoyable, light-meadium 45 minute drafting/tile laying game. This has a lot of positives in a short amount of time and could easily be pulled out, taught, and played quickly. There's always a place for that type of game in my collection.
