Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Some board games incorporate elements of role playing. It can be that players control a character that improves over time. It can also be a game that encourages or inspires storytelling.
Role Playing

Nightlancer is a reasonable game that is good, but not great. The quality of components are ok at best, with a dark game "board" that can be hard to read and a solo mode that lacks some of the elements which makes multiplayer the real stand out here.

Nightlancer is a deep experience. They manage to capture the essence of the cyberpunk mercenaries (Nightlancer) in a single game. Street phase is a set of worker placement where player compete for resources to prepare themselves to complete jobs. But the real emotion of the game comes with the negotiation. The game encourage players to join missions (RPG-Lite) where each player has the tools for the job, so they need each other. The issue is, only one win in the end. Did you want to interrupt other players in a crew? Jump into the same mission and prepare yourself to fight. I see dices and get nervous (I hate them), the resolution is a comparison of a skill vs difficulty + dice rolling, but the system give you lot of tools to mitigate the rolls (Contacts, Equipment and Stress). The result is amazing. Maybe the artwork is not the coup of tea of some players, and they miss the opportunity to test this amazing game.

In this game, you’ll compete with up to 3 other Nightlancers to earn the most Prospects, which can be earned through various means. You’ll buy equipment, gain contacts, and look for opportunities, in order to get ready for the missions presented to them. The game takes on a worker placement game mechanism during the preparation phase, where you compete to be the first to get what you need. It then takes on an RPG-like gameplay as you attempt to complete the 3 steps of a mission using the stats of your Nightlancer, the equipment you brought for the mission, as well as a roll of 3 dice. Nightlancer is a fun and exciting game where there are many ways to victory. You’ll make many temporary alliances and race against each other to be the first to complete missions. If that excites you, we do recommend you check out this game! - adapted from our post at https://www.instagram.com/p/CXL2FXFhikM/
