Sold via Fall 2017 auction. I think that maybe I'm just not smart enough to play Phil Eklund games. This one hit the table to be solo played no fewer than three times over the course of about a year. Folks aren't kidding when they talk about Eklund rulebooks being arcane tomes (even if the size doesn't fit that term), either, as I found it seriously too difficult to grok. I can appreciate the simulation and the effort to create these games, but if I'm having a bad time just reading the rules, I don't have time to play the game. 2021 edit: lol fuck phil eklund

This game has a lot of theme. I love the scientific research that supports the mechanisms in the game. I can understand that some may not enjoy this game, but I absolutely love it.

3 games with neanderthalensis vs. sapiens and no tribal switch in sight. The multi-step precondition structure coupled with the usual devastating event cards (elder die-off) means you won't get anything done within the 10 or 11 turns the game gives you. It might work with a longer setting (15 turns?). Greenland works much better in that regard and I think I'll stick with that in the future. Had no problem with the rules. The 7 rating here is more for the Phil Eklund experience of exploring the theory halo, than the actual gameplay. Rating system: Integral - objective value | fractional - want to play
