This mechanic requires you to place a bid, usually monetary, on items in an auction of goods in order to enhance your position in the game. These goods allow players future actions or improve a position. The auction consists of taking turns placing bids on a given item until one winner is established, allowing the winner to take control of the item being bid on. Usually there is a game rule that helps drop the price of the items being bid on if no players are interested in the item at its current price.
Auction/Bidding
This mechanic usually requires players to pick up an item or good at one location on the playing board and bring it to another location on the playing board. Initial placement of the item can be either predetermined or random. The delivery of the good usually gives the player money to do more actions with. In most cases, there is a game rule or another mechanic that determines where the item needs to go.
Pick-up and Deliver
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

    Moonshine Empire is already one of my most anticipated games this year! It brings together a lot of different game mechanics to produce a truly fun, thematic game!

  2. Components are amazing, insert is useful, & the board is colorful. Oozes theme. Rule book is terrible but there's a rewrite here in the BGG files that's much more fleshed out (Thanks, Limestone Cowboy!). Still recommend a video to learn the basics & the BGG forum for any specific questions. House Ruled. All plays have been at 4 player. We played by the written rules before making changes & no one was excited to play again. It was hard to get from Point A to Point B. It felt punishing, restrictive & long. I wanted combos & more productive turns. So we House Ruled to remove some punishing elements & also add/change some items for play efficiency & shortening length. While we enjoy it much more, it's still not perfect - but I'm not a game designer, I just play one on BGG.

    I've been there since inception with this game and the creators have been really thoughtful and careful to curate a really fun group experience. It has some unique play mechanics, is entertaining, and every game is different...

In an old tavern, in the middle of a gator infested swamp lives a shady old moonshiner named Pappy. For as long as anyone cares to remember he has been providing the best darn moonshine this side of the Mississippi! However, old Pappy is ready to retire and is holding something of a competition to see who’s got the gumption to take over his Moonshine Empire!

Distill, move, and deliver moonshine to Pappy’s tavern and earn money by selling it to his customers. Use that money to bribe him for gear at his auction. Watch out for the police and gators as they creep around his tavern. Earn points exploring the swamp, delivering shine, or by completing challenges. Choose your strategy quickly as Pappy’s challenge is over in one night, and whoever scores the most points claims Pappy’s Moonshine Empire!
