Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Some board games incorporate elements of role playing. It can be that players control a character that improves over time. It can also be a game that encourages or inspires storytelling.
Role Playing
In storytelling games, players are provided with conceptual, written, or pictorial stimuli which must be incorporated into a story of the players' creation.

Usually solo this....kind of a pain to set up but now that I have a table for games I can set up and leave on the table a while.... so now I have to try again

Cool idea and world building held back by a bad rulebook. So many unanswered questions and so much confusion on how to actually play. The first scenario to introduce you to the game is incredibly long. There are so many cards, items, abilities, etc to read that you forget what you have half the time. It has been some time since I last played it so it will probably take me a few hours of reading the rulebook and forums to get caught back up to speed. I probably need to rush and play this back to back as much as possible because the cost for relearning is not going to be worth the time spent. The gameplay itself was kind of exciting and interesting. Lots of just dice rolling but the story is what holds it all together. Without that I am afraid there is just a box of ideas. It is one of those games where you will probably get a lot more out of it if you don't spend time playing correctly because of the time to figure out what that even means and more time just trying to make it up as you go. I imagine playing with kids could be a challenge because of all the text you have to keep track of so that would become the responsibility of an adult which is hard enough to keep the idea of the rules straight.
