Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.
Modular Board
Tile Placement games feature placing a piece to score VPs, with the amount often based on adjacent pieces or pieces in the same group/cluster, and keying off non-spatial properties like color, "feature completion", cluster size etc.

Favorite find of 2019. Few games incorporate dexterity with real strategy and the final game board is just pretty to look at. collaborative by theming but just as competitive.
Francisco Arena
The whole concept of building a shared city is really really nice. Table presence is just awesome! It does require a very very solid table, though. Even so, it is very easy to destroy the city with a bump. If pieces were a bit thicker and heavier, it would improve the experience a lot. As for the rules, it has rough edges that shows a lack of development. For example: there is a special rule that occurs just for public (purple) buildings, and happens just ONE time in the whole game. The end game also seems more convoluted than it needed to be. Things like that. The objectives are a bit boring and derivative as well. The spacial placement in the cities is not interesting... almost all cities score the same. Graphic design is good. One folk asked if it was a KS game, because it has premium quality components and lacks some development. It is an almost-there game.

Iedereen is lekker bezig. Enige nadeel is dat je wel een gladde en vlak speel tafel moet hebben. Verder ziet het er aan het eind geweldig uit.
