Not soloable. Mariposas is a medium light grid movement/set collection/race that results in an experience quite unlike any other game that currently exists.
Big Bad Lex
Another game where production values massively outweigh the finesse of the gameplay. This will do well riding on the coat-tails of Wingspan but at it's core this is a massively random lottery where there is little to no scope for skillful strategy, just knee jerk reaction each round to the limited cards on offer. Factor in the further randomness of the blind tokens on the way stations and it is clear that the emphasis is more on this being a simulation rather than a game of choices and skill. As a result I would class this as a sub-gateway game, to be dusted off after Christmas day lunch, just a few evolutionary steps beyond Monopoly.

Aside from the designer herself, comparisons to Wingspan are baseless as the games have little else in common. Mariposas is unique and unlike anything else I've played. Village might be the closest with regard to generation worker progression. Hargrave's passion for the monarch butterfly are apparent and the theme works well. The only thing that seemed a little out of place/tacked on is the life-cycle set collection board. Overall a fun experience and works well at 2 players.
