Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.

Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
The simultaneous action selection mechanic lets players secretly choose their actions. After they are revealed, the actions resolve following the rule-set of the game.
Simultaneous Action Selection
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.

The mages have both been fun to play. I enjoyed how bloody the Johktari Beastmaster is and Malakai's Fire is a nice addition to a Holy mage. That said, it was frustrating trying to put together their spellbooks, because they each needed so many cards that their counterpart also had, meaning I either had to rejig their counterpart or modify their spellbook. This will become less of an issue as the spellbooks become more personalized, but the whole reason I bought the spell tome expansion is because I wanted to play Beastmaster vs. Beastmaster. It is a pretty awesome match up, btw.

In the Mage Wars: Conquest of Kumanjaro - Spell Tome Expansion, players can wage their own matches as a Priest of the Order of Malakai or as a Beastmaster of the Johktari, using new ability cards for each, and a trove of new spells from all the spell schools.

Yes, yes, yes. I don't understand why they moved towards the "Arena" format... the original box was EPIC. This is one of those few games that inspired real fights between my GF and I.
