Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.
Modular Board
The simultaneous action selection mechanic lets players secretly choose their actions. After they are revealed, the actions resolve following the rule-set of the game.
Simultaneous Action Selection
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.

Most important and best expansion for Mage Wars! An absolute must have for any Mage Wars player. Reinvigorates the game and stops it going too long.

The domination rules are a good addition and will tend to create shorter games which is a plus. There are some reasonable new cards and the larger board spaces help a little when playing the game. It's a shame it took so long in coming and that the idea of scenario based missions has not been developed further - the game remains arena bound. The opportunity could have been taken to include some more damage and mana tokens as these occasionally run out during play. Also, the rule book is a ridiculously large format. I'm still not sure I would want to play MW multi-player so that aspect of the game is a little underwhelming for me. So quite expensive for what I am likely to get out of it - the domination mode could have been implemented with a small card expansion and a few markers. Overall OK.

This is a really nice expansion to Mage Wars. Up until now they've just added more cards. Sometimes the new cards would do neat and interesting things and now I have a ton of content for Mage Wars but this expansion actually introduces modular tiles you can use to build your own map, many of which have special functions, as well as a new way to play instead of just "kill the other mage before he kills you". Oh, and there are also a bunch of brand new cards. The domination game mode is a sort of capture control points mode where there are going to be orbs on the map, often guarded by monsters called orb guardians. Once you control these orbs they accrue "orb points" each round, which can be spent to restore mana and health if in need but once you accumulate a certain amount they are also the game's victory condition. I like how this offers players more options both in deck building and tactical play. I also really like the modular map tiles giving us the ability to create our own arenas to play on. And of course I like having new cards, many of which are designed to be specifically useful in domination mode, but all of which can be put into any spellbook no matter which mode you are playing.
