    It's a bland Magic ripoff, except with one brilliant modification: the spell book. Still, as great an idea as that was, I wish it had more going for it.

    Excellent game but I'm enraged that I spent an hour typing up this review only to have BGG's absolute trashpile UI delete the entire thing because the flyout side panel got clicked away from. FIX this garbage! I have lost 3 reviews this way. I am not typing this again. Which sucks because I had a lot of good to say.

    Nice and simple mechanics, but new decks cost a fortune and I do not think they add enough variability to the deck building.

Mage Wars Academy features gameplay similar to Mage Wars Arena (née Mage Wars) with two mages in head-to-head combat to see who will be victorious.

Mage Wars Academy is a two-player starter set that features two mages, two spellbooks, and a new "boardless" gameplay design that’s more portable and fast-playing than Mage Wars Arena. All of the spell cards included in Academy are compatible with those in Arena.

Multiple core sets (or future expansions) can be added together to create a 3 or 4 player game.
