Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

2023-01-26 Initial Rating: 7.0 (January 2023) Even though my desire to play Mage Wars: Arena has decreased over time, I still think it is a tremendous game. I also like its faster brother Mage Wars: Academy and I LOVE that the cards can be used in both games. Due to this, my desire to play its expansions remains high and I had a blast playing this one. Mage Wars Academy: Warlock Expansion adds a new mage to the mix, the Warlock which, thematically, is my preferred one (I prefer to play with a Forcemaster or a Beastmaster though). If players are familiar with the base game rules, the new concepts can be explained under 1 minute. The new cards are fun to tinker with and to play. This iteration continues with the theme of doing damage to the Warlock to get a more powerful effect and I like this (but this can be dangerous if the fight goes on for a while). His demons are very fun to play and are very thematic. I particularly love Mhegedden as it takes 3 turns to enter and does a lot of damage to the Warlock himself, but it is a very powerful creature and very cheap at 6 mana. I´m not sure I would place it in a competitive deck, but it is a fun thematic card. Demons are among my favorite kind of card. There is another card I really like, and it is called Theft of Life (Enchantment) as this can help to stop mages from excessively healing themselves. Priests are my least liked mage for this reason as they can extend playtime by hours. To summarize, I like the Warlock a lot and I want to play with him again soon. The art continues to be topnotch. Bottom line, I really liked Mage Wars Academy: Warlock Expansion and I´m very happy to have new cards to try in both games, this one and Mage Wars: Arena. Even though this game (or its big brother) doesn’t come to the table often, I always enjoy it and I won´t ever get rid of it. Current Rating: 7.0

Similar to the other expansion, I wish it would have come with a spell book. Other than that, the cards are fun to play and I like the variety.

Adds the warlock from the arena series, plays very thematically, possibly the best add in to this system.
