Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
In-game money is bet on different commodities in hope that that particular commodity will become the most valuable as the game progresses. Often the values of the commodities are continually changing throughout the game, and the players buy and sell the commodities to make money off of their investment.
Commodity Speculation
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

Adds a lot of depth to the game, both of the expansions offer much needed options to the base game. In particular the corruption tokens provide for some interesting decisions.

Preordered from Amazon for $28 on 7/12/13. Hopefully it gets here before Pacificon 2013. Finally rec in Nov, probably due to over ordering.

I liked Lords of Waterdeep before but it was a very light gateway style worker placement. With this expansion, the game gains a bunch of scalability, with additional mechanics added or removed to tailor to your group's tastes. The game took longer than I expected, but the amount of combos and chains you can pull off, as well as the variety of buildings/cards/quests.. This game is much better with the expansion.
