This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

Born-of-Ashes
This attempt to mitigate the luck of bag builders swung to far to the minimal for me and ended up entirely too bland. It felt more like a race than an engine builder because the building is done in such infrequent bursts that I didn't care what I was buying, just that it was another slot toward victory that I could afford at the moment. Even with all of the modules (a necessary part that I don't agree with the decision to leave out) it still just follows the same arc and the RNG screwed me in a different way. Nope, just not my game.

A smooth and quick playing light Euro game. Jonny Pac is quickly becoming a designer whose games I'll seek out and play.

This is a seriously sweet game. It's not super rules heavy. So often now-a-days I pick up a new game and find that I spend the entire time playing trying to make the game rules work in my favor... remembering the obscure little ways to work around the game in order to blast everyone else out of the water through pure rule knowledge alone. It often feels in games that the one who has best memorized (and can skillfully apply) the 25 to 80 pages of rules is the winner. This game is different. You spend 10 minutes teaching the straightforward rules and then spend your time playing the game trying to make the cards themselves work for you in an efficient way. I feel like I'm playing a game rather than playing the rules. As someone who plays games with family and friends for the sake of fun and enjoyment, we love what this game has to offer. The subtle variations from game to game according to what cards are available just keep it fresh, even without getting into the mini expansions that are included with the game. My husband compares this game to Gizmos... which from him is a compliment as he enjoys Gizmos. You have to develop your engine to increase your chances of being able to develop it further, as quickly and efficiently as possible. He's not a hard-core gamer by nature and appreciates simple to learn rules and a good engine building system. Overall, a game that is coming to the table quite frequently and will always have a place on my ever expanding shelf.
