This mechanic requires you to place a bid, usually monetary, on items in an auction of goods in order to enhance your position in the game. These goods allow players future actions or improve a position. The auction consists of taking turns placing bids on a given item until one winner is established, allowing the winner to take control of the item being bid on. Usually there is a game rule that helps drop the price of the items being bid on if no players are interested in the item at its current price.

Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.

Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

Initially interested in this one based on its pedigree (designers of Yedo) and hype (e..g Jim & Eric) but lost interest due to the semi-cooperative nature and reports of very poor quality components. Played it. Loses points for me because of the semi-cooperative nature, which I will never go for. Still, some creative mechanisms and powers in play here.

Really cleverly designed game. As everyone says the rulebook fail is frustrating, but there are good files going around to address that. The game itself though is clever, with great replayability. I find every time I play it a new strategy I hadn't fully understood becomes clear.

I really want to like this game, but the rules are horrible. I would avoid this game just for that reason alone. The different color chits have a gradient over them, so you need to order colored wooden/plastic cubes to replace them - unless you want to add to your frustration. There is a game here though, and it's good. You just got to work for it, which I was willing to do - it was painful at times though. I doubt this will ever get a reprint. A reworked rule book and usable components could make this a solid game.
