Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
In storytelling games, players are provided with conceptual, written, or pictorial stimuli which must be incorporated into a story of the players' creation.

One of my first campaign games. I love the narrative and initially found it super interesting. The app is great and easy to use. The components are beautiful - but sometimes not functional. I played solo and multiplayer. Played with my daughter (more video gamer) The things that do not work for me and people I played with: - Unclear rules (we just house rule if we cannot find - did not find the rulebook clear, the ship administration was fine) - watch live streaming playthroughs (they often spend a ton of time checking rules) - Dice checks - Tedious and repetitive and way too complex. And not fun for me after the first couple of missions. - Randomness and luck are the absolute rule here - and they layer! Dice check success (mostly random) then a discovery lead - random! UGH! - Punishing with variable mitigation (most times for us it wasn't near enough) - Decision space - it didn't feel like there was much - and most of the time we chose wrong and suffered when it came to what was needed for the mission. - Exploring - you are punished for this and risk failure if you go too far away from the sequence the game wants you to do - Upgrades for crew were woefully light - and did not do as much as you'd think - Mini's are too big and you have to move them. I so want standees for this one! - WAY too long -this is a slog of epic proportions. It's 3-4 hours when you bring it out at a minimum. - Solo - I found I needed to do 4 crew (I'm newer to this type of game so this might be experience but 2 crew did not lead to success). Overall - I wanted to love it. It's beautiful. The story, so far, is great. But this amount of punishment and repetitiveness is just - not fun at all. It needed less to have a more effect - it's not streamlined. I don't feel like I'm exploring. I don't feel like my choices matter much. Without the App this game is unplayable. If I continue I will just house rule to see if I can get some actual enjoyment out of this game. It may be this type of game is not for me.

Huge game. Huge time investment to learn too, and also to play, but a lot of work went into making it and it shows. If you love the X-COM series strategy layer, this is about as close as you’re going to find in a board game (yes, much closer than the actual X-COM titled board game)
