Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

#Family Game Rating Preliminary rating after two tutorial games. Hasn't quite 'clicked' with us yet. More plays needed.

Takes to long to play (digital app is a faster experience) and I would rather play Small World. I did not know how much I like the quick and easy battle mechanics in Small Would until I played “A History of the World." and got to experience the DNA of the dinosaur that went into creating Small World. “A History of the World" game last 3 hours longer than a normal Small World game, sure it feels very epic, but with less satisfaction and a lot of downtime where you just want to tell someone to roll the dice for you while you get up and wander around. "Small world" solves all battles very fast, but it can feel a bit like the old overrun rule. It would be easy to incorporate rules from “A History of the World" into "Small World", and I feel tempted to try it, to get the feeling of more "History of the World"-epic battles in a 3-player game, but not in a 5/6-player game, then "Small World" battle mechanics simplicity still shine. I think it was good and wise this new version of "History of the World" ditched the overrun rule.

A dice chucker at it's core, a mix of Risk and A&A. The card mechanic at the start of each epoch makes for some interesting decisions. The forts, cities, capitols and monuments are added on but work well. The art and components are really nice. Only issues are the length of the game and the downtime between turns, it's not excessive but depending on the people you're playing with you can definitely expect it to take over 2 hrs with 3+ players.
