Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

Zman Edition. Gateway Game I Enjoy. Sadly, there are so few gateway games I can stomach for any lengthy duration. This one has the historical connection I have been finding a greater taste for but Smallworld is a great game too. The (Small)World of Warcraft pushed this out of my collection but I am somewhat unsure I made the correct decision.

[initial rating after one play with 2p] History of the World feels like Small World for adults. The notion of controlling multiple civilizations over the course of the game is novel and seems to work rather well. The level of depth and complexity are a bit on the light side, but I admire that it keeps the game length manageable for an evening. I generally like what the game offers, and I'd like to try this again with a group. Feels like a keeper for now.

Pro Good push your luck, area control, light strategy world domination game. With the points for regions changing as epochs change, along with the draft mechanic for Empire/Event card selection, your tactics will require careful consideration each round. Con Has potential for analysis paralysis creating long downtimes between turns. Counting up points for scoring can be a cumbersome task. Very little real interaction between players.
