Deck building/Pool building refers to a collection of related mechanisms. Players have a personal pool, or collection, of cards or tokens, that provide different actions and/or resources. A subset of those cards/tokens are randomly drawn each turn.
Deck / Pool Building
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.

Bleck. Never has a mess of mechanics felt so disconnected and uninspired. Not even sure why I bounced off this so hard, but it was so bad I feel little desire to go give it a second chance. Others feel it's great, you should probably listen to them and not me.

Very good game. Many way to win and different thing to focus. Need to play once to know what strategy to plan in next. Looking forward for another game soon!
4Corners
Quick playing game that's intuitive but has depth about running cattle from Texas to Kansas City (and beyond). The game is variable in length, scales well from 2-4 players, and has fast turns. Each turn you move, and it's point to point movement from building to building (thus movement typically slows down later in the game when more buildings are out), and then utilize a buildings power(s). There are neutral buildings, which are laid out at the start of the game and provide significant variability depending on the order that they come out, and personal buildings which first need to be built and can only be used by their owner. You start with a hand of 4 cattle cards (all players have the same starting deck but due to shuffling/drawing and deck building and thinning, hands will vary) and many building actions allow for card play. You always refill your hand at the end of your turn. Your goal is to score the most points by game end and there are several ways to score (point salad): 1) buying new cow cards, 2) building personal buildings, 3) making cattle deliveries, 4) scoring end game objective cards, 5) clearing hazards, 6) building train stations, 7) having a large supply of assistants (cowboys, builders, engineers), 8) some other minor ways such as cash in hand, etc. You are following a trail to Kansas City which has branch points but eventually you will reach your destination at which point you must make a delivery. This typically has several benefits: you get cash in hand (very useful), you place a disk on a station (can provide end game points) and the disk that was placed comes from your personal action board which opens up improved actions. This upgrade effect comes in two flavours either improved actions such as more movement or larger hand size, or improved auxiliary actions; auxiliary actions are minor but important actions you can take at certain buildings or at any movement endpoint instead of doing a building action. Each delivery involves seeding a track of hired personalities which serves as a supply to buy from but which is also a game clock; the more frequent the deliveries, the faster the game. Personalities play a significant role as they boost your abilities in three key areas: 1) cowboys allow for cheaper prices when buying cattle cards, 2) builders allow for more powerful and higher point value buildings, and 3) engineers improve the movement of your train (you want to move your train as it reduces the freight costs of delivering cattle to far away destinations and it opens up train station building opportunities). As well personalities provide one off bonuses if you collect enough of the same type and score end game points if you acquire enough of them. This is a fun easy to play gamers game with significant variability and is a great follow up to Pfisters' previous design Mombasa. Looking forward to more releases from this designer.
