After one play, not completing a dungeon I’m seeing a decent tactical RPG, but struggling to see the #1 game. 2nd session, one big fight took up the whole 3 hour session. Fun, but slow.

People are talking a lot of box size, but there's a lot of content for gameplay and it's not even filled much of miniature mess, instead there's dozens of cards, tokens, cardboards and other gameplay stuff in good price. That's why you might need insert solution for content. You will spend a lot of time with this. My gaming group spend already one year (once per week), and there's still much for explore. And still learning rules, though main mechanisms are simple. You need gaming group with same mates all the campaign, but it's possible for solo; however, I would recommend to find other game for solo play, for example maybe Mage Knight or 7th Continent.

I kickstarted the 1st edition of Gloomhaven but passed on Scythe and 7th Continent, which were all on KS at the same time. Big mistake. The latter two became two of my favorite games to be released in the last year, whereas Gloomhaven was my most disappointing game. I can see why someone might like this game. I don’t understand how this is poised to become the new #1 game of BGG. I found it to be extremely fiddily. The cardboard terrain is double sided, so setup takes 30 minutes at least, at which point after hunting for each piece I had lost interest in playing. Every scenario we played felt the same, and after three plays of killing all cardboard bad guys I no longer wanted to play this game again and sold it.
